Your PAN card will be no longer valid. Yes, you read it correctly. As per latest notification by the government, now it is mandatory to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card, Else your PAN card validity will expire after two days.
From 1st July 2017, it is mandatory to quote your Adhaar card number for filling income tax return. According to the government, this step will help the government to check instance of multiple PANs.
What if your Income is under tax limit or doesn’t have Aadhar card?
If your income is under tax limit and has both PAN and Aadhar card then 30 June 2017 will become last day for your PAN Card Validity under section 139AA.
According to recent Supreme Court order, there is small relief window to for those who don’t have Aadhar card but those have both will not get any relief. This means senior citizens, housewives, students, entry-level workforce, etc. who have PAN and Aadhaar both but don’t file returns will have to link the two numbers.
How To Link PAN Card to Aadhar Card:
Linking your Pan card to Aadhar is very easy and it will take hardly 5 minutes. Below are the steps you can follow to link both cards.
Go to income tax website >> https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
Click on “Link Aadhar” as shown
Fill all the details asked like PAN number, Aadhar number, Name as per Adhar, remember to tick on check box if the only birth year is mentioned on Aadhar card and enter correct code and then submit.
After submitting details you will receive a confirmation message for linking of your cards.
If the name on Aadhar and PAN is not matching then you need to provide mobile number registered with Aadhar card to get OTP to verify your details.
