The Supreme Court upheld Delhi High Court and trial court decision to award death penalty. The four convicts Mukesh (27), Pawan Gupta (20), Vinay Sharma (21) and Akshay Thakur (29) in the December 16, 2012, gang rape and murder case.
The only recourse left to the convicts is a mercy petition to the President of India. The top court was to give its ruling on the appeals filed by the four convicts, of the six who were implicated in the dreaded Delhi gang-rape and murder case that shook the “collective conscience of the nation”.
But the death sentence by the Supreme Court to the four accused in the Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case made us feel proud of our justice system for hearing her voice. In her dying declaration, she appealed that her perpetrators not be spared.
The Justice – that was demanded by the entire country, five years ago, never let the nation forget. Each voice that joined the battle was too clear – the six must be punished. Finally, they will pay. The cruelty of such crimes is something everyone refuses to accept!!
If we talk about principles on women empowerment in our country, Priyanka Chopra has always been very vocal about her thoughts on it.
